Day 3:  June 3, 2004

Kobe

Time for a little break from travelling around!  We stayed in Kobe today, but still got to see some interesting things.  We took a shuttle bus to the Shin-Kobe bullet train station, then took the ropeway cable car up from the station for a great view of the city.  We then walked part-way down the mountainside through an herb and flower garden.  From there we walked through the Kitano and Sannomiya areas, then visited the Kobe China Town.

Dinner at a Kobe Steakhouse

Dinner tonight was at an authentic steakhouse. Kobe Beef is a legendary delicacy of Japan, and we would have to say that it lived up to its billing.  The entire meal was a real adventure, with the chef preparing the different courses (tofu, bean sprouts, snapper, garlic, fried rice, etc.) right in front of us.  He put on a show for us while he cooked, juggling his knives and at one point flipping a lemon slice up into his hat.
